Quotes of the Day:
Roger Federer & 'The One-Handed Backhand Boys'
"We were in Australia and it was the birthday of my agent and David Foster was there, the great songwriter. He was at the piano and said, 'Let's just have some fun, sing a bit'. Tommy Haas, the tournament director here of Indian Wells, and Grigor Dimitrov were there as well. We put it out because it was just too funny not to share it with the people. "This time we went into the recording studio because we sounded so bad - not that we sound any better now! - and we re-did the video. It's actually really, really funny and so embarrassing. It's so bad and it's so good. We're still looking for names, but for the moment we're 'The One-Handed Backhand Boys'!"
Elena Vesnina On Her First Visit To Indian Wells
"I was 16 years old, and it was my first time in America, like, ever. I came here, my ranking was around 250. I didn't get in into the qualifying. I didn't know how to enter the tournament. I entered, but I didn't know where to check the entry list. I was totally a kid who came here. I didn't get in.
"But when I just got here, I looked outside, I was like, 'Oh, my God, I want to live here (smiling).' I was staying with a really nice old lady in her house. She had, like, two cars, one was convertible, had the garden with oranges, with grapefruits. Everything was just so beautiful here.
"The tournament, the facilities, I saw so many courts, I think, for the first time in my life. Having a gym, player lounge, locker rooms, everything on such a high level.
"I was, like, 'Whoa, I really, really want to play this tournament.' I was dreaming just to get here, to be honest, next year, just to play here. I was thinking I want to play well in singles, but the result was not here. In doubles I won three times title here, and singles it was just not going this way. So finally, this year, after all these years, yeah, I'm in the final (smiling)."
